Little known facts about myself....
- I started drawing before I can remember.
- I won a drawing contest on a local TV channel. The Gene London Show at age 9.
- I was a hair dresser for 42 years and my husband says I always happy when I have any brush in my hand.
- While raising my two daughters and working, I started painting wooden Santa’s to give as Christmas presents. People began asking for them and my painting career started.
- I have taken seminars with some very well known artists over the years and learned so much.
- I helped organize a local decorative painting chapter and served as president for 2 years.
- I am a juried member of the Reading Berks Craftsmen’s Guild.
- I teach in my home studio and I’m part of the teaching staff at Steph’s Folk Art Studio.
- I live with my husband, daughter and 2 grand-children (who are my biggest fans).
- I also have a grand-daughter that lives in Alabama with her parents and at age 17 has surpassed me with her artistic abilities.
- We are a family of dog lovers and have rescued 7 dogs over the years.
- I rent a spot at a local vintage/antique shop called "The Swamp Door" where I sell my painted pieces and things I pick along the way.
Nancy's Granddaughter wrote a "personal" paragraph and a "storytelling" paragraph as a school assignment about her Grandma ♡
Personal
"In the summers and winters, my family would visit my grandmother’s house. She was a folk artist and her house was a wonderland to me. It was filled with beautiful paintings of imagined scenes, I would sit next to her as she painted her ideas to life and I was fascinated. I wanted to learn to create something so beautiful, So I practiced and practiced and still practice today, and the most important thing is, it makes me happy. Because of this, painting of all types of art holds a special place in my heart and I will continue to practice the rest of my life."
Storytelling
"Far away, there was a woman who was a painter. She had a house filled with paintings she had made. She also had a granddaughter. One day, the woman was in her painting room and she began to paint. The granddaughter was with her. She watched as the woman painted ideas to life. They were idyllic scenes of nature and fantasy. The granddaughter was happy watching her grandmother. She was inspired."
